What Can Core Support Be Used For?
There are four Core Support categories, and you can generally use your funds flexibly across them (unless otherwise specified in your plan):
1. Assistance with Daily Life
This includes help with:
-
Personal care tasks (e.g. showering, dressing, grooming)
-
Meal preparation
-
Household chores (cleaning, laundry, etc.)
-
Supported Independent Living (SIL) services
Example: A support worker helps you get ready in the morning and prepare breakfast.
2. Transport
Supports your ability to get to and from school, work, or community activities.➡️ .
3. Consumables
This covers everyday items related to your disability, such as:
-
Continence products
-
Low-cost assistive technology
-
Feeding equipment
-
PPE (like gloves and face masks)
4. Assistance with Social & Community Participation
Helps you take part in recreational, social, or community-based activities.
🔄 Can I Move My Core Support Funding Around?
Yes! One of the benefits of Core Support funding is flexibility. You can usually reallocate funds between the four categories (except where budgets are specifically stated as “stated supports”).
So if you’re using less transport but need more support at home, you can adjust accordingly—just make sure it’s within your plan’s guidelines.
👀 Tips for Making the Most of Your Core Supports
-
Review your needs regularly – Your daily life can change, and so should your support plan.
-
Track your spending – This helps avoid running out of funds before your plan review.
-
Speak to a Support Coordinator – They can help you understand your budget and find providers that fit your needs.
-
Use a Plan Manager – If you’re not self-managing, a Plan Manager can help you stay on top of invoices and provider payments.
